We are 3!

We actually turned 3 on the 10th of last month, and here we are finally taking some time to celebrate.

The 3rd year was certainly strange as most of it was spent in the midst of a pandemic. But during the year we were visited 858,432 times by 281,218 folks, so here's the biggest thank you for all that support!

Below, we do a quick round up of the year, highlighting the most loved recipes and articles.

Valhomas Noodles

We Maldivians certainly love our smoked tuna. So it’s not surprising that this smoked tuna noodles recipe is one of the most viewed recipes on our website.

Thooha’s Thoodles Doodles

We had a chat with Thooha Adley, author of the popular food blog Thoodles Doodles and the topics we covered include childhood baking stories, food heroes and food blogging among other things.

Finding dumplings in Male’

It’s not long ago that dumplings became a thing in our local food scene. And in this article we talk about what dumplings are and where to get them from.

Fehi Boakibaa

It’s green, it’s coconutty, it feels special, and it’s one of our favourite teatime snacks.

Gerikiru boakibaa

Gerikiru Boakibaa sort of sits at the halfway point between a butter cake and a condensed milk boakibaa. Anyway, it’s a delicious dessert that’s just perfect with a cup of tea.

Myne’s labour of love: Whisk

Whisk is a labour of love for its owner and baker Fainan Hassan (Myne). What started as a hobby evolved into a cute little cafe’.

Pandan Cake

Our version of the pandan cake is a bit different to the classic Malaysian padan chiffon cake. The chiffon cake involves the making of a meringue while our version is a bit simpler, yet quite delicious if we may say so ourselves.

Maldivian Patissier Aminath Hameed

Aminath Hameed works as Commis One Pastry Chef at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. She also runs a page on Instagram called maldivian.pattisier. We had a brief chat over the phone about her career as well as the inspirations behind her work.

Magnum Pudding

Does magnum pudding taste like an actual Magnum ice cream? Not all that much. But does it taste good? Hell yes!

Lunching at The Wave

Before the pandemic hit, The Wave was one of the newest additions to Male’s food scene and this article is about the time we went there for lunch and were blown away by some really good beef.
