Rihaakuru Dhiya

We did upload a recipe for Rihaakuru Dhiya sometime back. But that was the cooked version, the one that some people call Rihaakuru Garudhiya. This time we have the Rihaakuru Dhiya version that’s made with coconut milk.


Serves: 2-3



  • 4 tbsp. rihaakuru
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 1 onion
  • ¼ githeyo mirus (or to taste)
  • ¼ lime (or to taste)
  • 2 dried red chillies toasted over the stove (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp. salt (optional)



  1. Slice the onions, curry leaves, toasted dried chilli (without seeds) and githeyo mirus thinly.
  2. Place the sliced onions and curry leaves in a bowl, squeeze in the lime, and using your fingers, mix, squeeze and squash the mixture until the onion releases its juices.
  3. Mix in the githeyo mirus and dried chilli along with the rihaakuru and the coconut milk.
  4. Mix everything well, you can use a spoon at this stage, but make sure the rihaakuru is not sticking to the bottom of the bowl. Before you call it done, do a taste test and add salt if necessary; you probably won’t have to.
