Oats are one of the healthiest grains on planet earth.
The whole grain food known scientifically as Avena sativa is gluten free and high in fiber, and compared to other grains oats have more protein and good fats.
They’ve got lots of vitamins and minerals too, as well as antioxidants that can help with reducing blood pressure. Oats contain a soluble fiber called beta glucan that reduces cholesterol, which in turn reduces the risk of heart disease.
Oats also help with gut health and regulating blood sugar. And it’s good for weight loss too because it helps you feel full for longer.
Oat groats, the whole form of oats take a long time to cook, so people mostly eat rolled, crushed, steel cut and instant oats; the latter is the quickest to cook and the most processed.
So what’s the easiest way to eat them? Just boil with water or milk until the desired consistency is reached, and enjoy it with a drizzle of honey or some fruits, for a healthy, filling an energizing breakfast. You can opt for the no cook overnight method too, in which you’d soak the raw oats in milk overnight.
