Luxury resort W Maldives is celebrating this year’s International Women’s Day with Fathimath Shaadhny (Shaa), the baker behind Ginger Bakes.
The day’s activities include a ‘pop up’ breakfast in which guests staying at the resort can savour Shaa’s baked goodies and a baking workshop. And apart from introducing guests to the delicious and often beautiful Ginger Bakes creations, on the agenda is a focus on sourcing local ingredients as well as serving classics with uniquely Maldivian twists.
The breakfast ‘pop up’ features pandan buns, cookie stack cake, ‘sarubath’ tres leches, kashikeyo (screw pine) pie, and Dhon Hiyala a dessert especially created for the occasion. Dhon Hiyala is a tart with Maldivian rice porridge ‘bondibaiy’, a compote that’s made from locally sourced mangoes, and a homemade coconut cream.
Joining Shaa in the celebration is award winning Ilaria Forlani, Pastry Chef of W Maldives who is famous for her sushi gelato and ice stones.
Shaa is a self-taught baker who eventually turned her passion into her profession with the launching of Ginger Bakes in 2015, and you can read more about that and more in the interview we did with her sometime back: Shaa’s gorgeous Ginger Bakes.
And last but not the least, happy Women's Day to all you beautiful girls and women reading this!
