Jam Filled French Toast

 

This is a simple and comforting take on French toast with a sweet jam-filled centre. It is quick to make and works well as a breakfast treat or a light dessert.

For our recipe, we have used Fresh Strawberry Jam provided to us by one of our partners, KDM. This adds a bright, fruity sweetness that pairs really well with the soft toast and cinnamon coating. It is great to have daily with your bread and butter as well.

Yield: 3 French toasts

 

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices white bread
  • 3 tbsp Fresh Strawberry Jam
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ tbsp cinnamon powder
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence

 

For the toppings (optional)

  • 3 strawberries
  • Whipped cream

 

Instructions:

  1. Take 6 slices white bread and trim off the crusts.
  2. Spread about 1 tbsp Fresh Strawberry Jam onto one slice of bread using a spoon or knife, then place another slice on top to make a sandwich. Repeat to make 3 sandwiches, then cut each sandwich in half.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together 2 eggs, 1/3 cup milk, and ½ tsp vanilla essence until well combined. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are coated. Let any excess drip off (it is best to dip right before adding to the pan, so that it is not over-soaked).
  4. Heat 1 tsp unsalted butter in a pan over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook for about 1 minute 30 seconds on each side or until golden brown.
  5. Add 1½ tbsp cinnamon powder in a small bowl or plate. Lightly coat the warm French toasts in the cinnamon.
  6. Serve with fresh strawberries and whipped cream on top.
