Mohabbat Ka Sharbat | Lonumedhu

Mohabbat Ka Sharbat

Mohabbat ka Sharbat literally means “a drink of love.” It’s a beloved, refreshing beverage from India made with fragrant rose syrup, chilled milk, and juicy watermelon. It’s sweet, floral, and perfect for warm days.

For our recipe, we have used Northern Luck Rose Syrup provided to us by one of our partners, KDM. This rose syrup is a commonly available staple in most households in Maldives. It can be used to make many drinks and desserts.

Serving size: 2 glasses

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ tsp basil seeds
  • 1/3 cup room temperature water (to soak the basil seeds)
  • 1 ½ cup full cream milk
  • 1 cup largely diced watermelon (½ inch pieces)
  • 1/3 cup Northern Luck Rose Syrup
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 15 ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. Add 1 ½ tsp basil seeds and 1/3 cup room temperature water into a glass and let it soak for 5 minutes.
  2. Into a large bowl, add in 1 ½ cup full cream milk, 1 cup largely diced watermelon, 1/3 cup Northern Luck Rose Syrup, 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk, soaked basil seeds (along with the soaking water) and 15 ice cubes.
  3. Mix everything well using a ladle until the condensed milk and rose syrup are well combined.
  4. Pour into two glasses (we used 4.5 inch tall and 3-inch-wide glasses) and serve.
