Mongolian Beef Stir Fry | Lonumedhu

Mongolian Beef Stir Fry

Beef strips and vegetables covered in delicious sauce; this Mongolian beef stir fry dish is a Taiwanese creation that stems from “Mongolian barbecue” style. The dish is usually enjoyed with a bowl of rice.

The star ingredient in this stir fry is the Sparta Beef Strips, provided to us by one of our partners, United Food Suppliers (UFS). The beef being already cut into strips makes it convenient for use in home kitchens, and when cooked, these beef strips are tender and full of meat flavor.

Serves: 2-3

Ingredients:

To marinate the beef strips

  • 225–250-gram Sparta Beef Strips
  • 2 tbsp corn flour

To prepare the sauce

  • ½ tsp minced ginger
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp + 2 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 2 tsp chili garlic sauce
  • ½ tsp chili flakes

For the stir fry

  • 2 tsp oil (to sauté vegetables)
  • ½ cup thinly sliced carrot (cut into 2-3-inch strips)
  • ½ red bell pepper (cut into 2-3-inch thin strips)
  • 2 chopped red chilies
  • ¼ tsp salt (to season the vegetables)
  • 2 tsp oil (to sauté beef strips)
  • ¼ tsp salt (to season the beef strips)

Instructions:

  1. Firstly, into a large bowl add in 225–250-gram Sparta Beef Strips (make sure to cut the longer beef strips into 3-inch strips), and 2 tbsp corn flour. Using your hand, mix together till the beef strips are fully coated with corn flour. Set aside.
  2. To prepare the sauce, add in ½ tsp minced ginger, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp water, 2 tbsp + 2 tsp dark soy sauce, 2 tsp chili garlic sauce, and ½ tsp chili flakes into a bowl and mix everything together till its fully combined. Set aside.
  3. To prepare the vegetables, heat up 2 tsp oil in a large pan on medium-high heat for about 45 seconds. Once the oil is heated, add in ½ cup carrots cut into thin strips (the length of the carrot strips should be around 2-3-inches), ½ red bell pepper cut into thin strips (the bell pepper strips should be around 2-3-inches), 2 chopped red chilies and ¼ tsp salt. Sauté everything together for about 2-3 minutes on medium-high heat. Now the carrots and red bell peppers should be soft.
  4. Transfer the vegetables onto a plate and add in 2 tsp oil into the same pan and let it heat up for 45 seconds. Add in the corn flour coated beef strips, and ¼ salt. Let the beef cook on medium heat for about 1 ½ minutes. The beef strips will look mostly cooked; some might have little pink spots.
  5. Once the beef is mostly cooked, add in the sauteed vegetables, prepared sauce and 1/3 cup spring onions and mix everything well. Let it cook for another 2 ½ minutes on medium heat until the sauce thickens up. Mongolian beef stir fry is now ready. Enjoy!
