French Toast Roll-Ups

 

French toast roll-ups are a delicious twist on traditional French toast. And while you can fill the roll-ups with a variety of fillings, here we’ve filled them with the really chocolaty spread Kruger Pasta Nussa Dark Choco.

We got our Kruger Pasta Nussa Dark Choco from one of our partners STO (State Trading Organisation). The spread has an intense chocolate flavour without it being bitter, and also it tastes quite creamy.

Makes: 6

 

Ingredients:

  • 6 slices white bread (large)
  • 6 tbsp. Kruger Pasta Nussa Dark Choco
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup full cream milk
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 3 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. butter

 

Instructions:

  1. Trim the crusts off the bread. With a rolling pin, roll each slice of bread until flattened.
  2. Spread each slice of bread with a layer of Kruger Pasta Nussa Dark Choco spread; 1 tablespoon per slice. When spreading the chocolate spread, don’t go all the way to the edge. Leave around a half centimeter gap on the edges. Then tightly roll up the bread slices.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together egg, milk and salt and set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon and set aside.
  5. Dip each French toast roll-up in the egg mixture and place on a plate.
  6. Heat a pan on medium heat, melt the butter. Place the roll-ups in the pan and cook for about 2 minutes, turning them as needed until they are golden brown and slightly crisp on all sides.
  7. Remove the roll-ups from the pan, roll them through the cinnamon-sugar mixture until all sides are coated.
