Fish and Chips

 

Fish and chips are a beloved dish, both by kids and adults alike.

Making our fish super crispy and flavourful is the Japanese Obento Panko bread crumbs, which we got from one of our partners Black Gold Foods. These bread crumbs have a light and fine texture which results in a crunchy coating that’s ideal for coating chicken, meat and seafood.

 

Serves: 3-4

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Obento Panko bread crumbs
  • 360g tuna
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 300g frozen French fries

For the sauce

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp mustard cream
  • 1 tsp honey
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp black pepper powder
  • ¼ tsp mixed dried herbs.

 

Instructions:

  1. Add the Obento Panko bread crumbs to a bowl and set it aside.
  2. Slice the tuna thinly and add to another bowl.
  3. Add chili powder, black pepper powder, salt, lime juice, flour and egg to the bowl and mix well.
  4. Take a piece of tuna out of the bowl and place it in the Obento Panko bread crumbs and turn the piece over to give it a good crumb coating. Then remove to a plate and repeat until you run out of tuna. 
  5. Heat oil in a pot and fry the French fries on medium high heat for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Then remove and set aside.
  6. To the same pot, add the crumb coated tuna pieces and fry the tuna on medium heat for 7 or 8 minutes or until brown and crispy. Once fried remove to a plate lined with tissue papers to get rid of the excess oil.
  7. Make the sauce by mixing all the ingredients needed for the sauce in a small bowl.
