Easy Beef Curry | Lonumedhu

Easy Beef Curry

This is an updated version of our classic beef curry recipe. The beef is so perfectly tender and flavoured deliciously with spices and aromatics. It will taste amazing served with some rice or roshi.

For our recipe, we have used the Sparta Beef Cubes, provided to us by one of our partners, United Foods Suppliers (UFS). These are already cut to bite size cubes, making it quick and easy to use in recipes. When cooked, it is soft and tender with a deep meat flavour.

Serving size:  2-3

Ingredients:

  • 250g Sparta Beef Cubes
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • 1 large thinly sliced onion
  • 7 curry leaves
  • 3-inch piece of cinnamon stick
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 2/3 tsp grated ginger
  • 2/3 tsp grated garlic
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • ½ tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ cup beef stock (½ beef stock cube dissolved in ½ cup warm water)
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tsp lime juice (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Defrost 250g Sparta Beef Cubes and trim off any large piece of fats. Also, cut any too large cubes to 1 ½ or 2-inch pieces so they cook more evenly.
  2. Add 2 tbsp oil to a medium sized pot and add the beef along with 1/3 tsp salt. Mix well and cook over medium heat until the beef starts to get browned. This will take around 6 to 7 minutes. Remove from the pot and set aside.
  3. To the same pot add 1 large thinly sliced onion, 7 curry leaves, 3-inch piece of cinnamon stick and 3 cardamom pods. Cook the mixture over medium heat for around 3 to 4 minutes until the onions soften and start to get browned.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and add 2/3 tsp grated ginger and 2/3 tsp grated garlic and cook for around 1 minute.
  5. Then add 1 tbsp coriander powder, ½ tbsp cumin powder, 1 tsp chilli powder, and ¼ tsp turmeric. Mix well and cook until you can smell the spices. This will take around a minute.
  6. Add 2 tbsp tomato paste along with the beef you cooked before. Mix well and cook for another minute.
  7. Now add ½ cup beef stock and ¼ cup water. Stir to combine, put a lid on the pot.
  8. Then set the heat to very low and let the mixture cook until the beef is tender. For us this took around 1 hour and 45 minutes. When the beef is cooked, optionally, you can squeeze in 1 tsp lime, mix well and switch off the stove.
