Beef Bolognese Pizza

 

Bolognese pizzas are usually hearty and flavourful, and here we have a beef Bolognese pizza recipe that’s easy and really delicious.

Unlike the traditional Bolognese sauce that takes hours to simmer, this recipe uses are quicker version that’s equally decadent. Making things even easier is the Domo Pizza Crust Mix which we got from one of our partners ADK General Trading.

With Domo Pizza Crust Mix, there’s almost no kneading involved and the rest time is just 20 minutes. And while it has no artificial colours, preservatives or hydrogenated oils, the crust when baked has a nice crispness on the edges with a lovely freshly baked bread like flavour.

Serves: 2-3 (12-inch pizza)

 

Ingredients:

For the sauce

  • 1 onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 200g minced beef
  • ½ can peeled tomato (200g)
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. chilli powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. dried rosemary

For the dough

  • 1 Domo Pizza Crust Mix packet
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ½ tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp. flour

For the topping

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

 

Instructions:

  1. Chop the onion and garlic finely.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan. Add the onion and garlic and sauté for 3 minutes on medium high heat.
  3. Then add minced beef and sauté for 4 minutes on high heat.
  4. Add peeled tomato, tomato paste, chili powder, salt, pepper, sugar and dried rosemary. Sauté for 8 minutes on medium high heat and that’s it for the sauce.
  5. Add Domo Pizza Crust Mix to a bowl, including the yeast packet that comes with it.
  6. Add vegetable oil and warm water to the bowl. When adding the water, add it gradually.
  7. Combine everything using a spatula. Then mix using your fingers until it forms a dough.
  8. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rest for 20 minutes.
  9. Once the 20 minutes is over, remove the cloth and punch down the dough to release excess air.
  10. Sprinkle flour on to a clean surface. Place the dough on it and knead the dough for around a minute. Divide the dough into 3 equal parts. We’ll be using 1 part for this recipe. You can freeze the rest for later use.
  11. Lightly flour the work surface, using a rolling pin, gently flatten the dough into a disc. Ours had a 12-inch diameter.
  12. Place a sheet of baking paper on a tray and place the dough on it. Use your fingers to flatten the dough a bit more.
  13. Using a fork, poke holes on the flattened dough.
  14. Spread the Bolognese sauce on top of the dough. Then top with mozzarella cheese.
  15. Preheat the oven at 230 degrees Celsius for at least 10 minutes. Then place the tray on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted and that’s it.
