For this week’s feature article we took to the Internet to find out what people from all over the world eat for Iftar. We were able to find some interesting and really appetizing dishes, so have a look below.
Chicken or Lamb Kabsa - Saudi Arabia
The usual ingredients of a kabsa are rice, meat, vegetables and a mixture of spices including black pepper, cloves, cardamom, saffron, cinnamon, black lime, bay leaves and nutmeg. Kabsa is also considered the national dish in Saudi Arabia, so it’s no wonder the kabsa’s an iftar table essential.
Harees - UAE
Harees or Jareesh is a daily Ramadan staple in the UAE. Overnight-soaked wheat along with meat gets cooked and blended together with a little bit of spices to make this filling and simple dish.
Morocco - Harira
A Ramadan staple from Morocco, Harira is a light soup that’s usually made from lentils, flour, tomatoes, chickenpeas, onions, rice, meat and olive oil.
Lebbanon - Fattoush
A salad at Iftar time sounds quite refreshing doesn’t it? Fattoush is a bread salad made by either toasting or frying Arabian flatbread. Mixed greens and vegetables are also included.
Iran - Kofta
Kofta is a meatball dish that’s made from minced chicken, beef or lamb. The minced meat is of course mixed with other fragrant ingredients such as onions and spices and is often served with a curry sauce.
Haleem - Pakistan
It’s a comfort inducing stew made from grains, lentils and some kind of meat. The dish is slow cooked for 6 to 8 hours, so just imagine how well the flavours would have combined.

Kunafeh - Palestine
Kunafeh is a traditional Palestinian dessert that’s creamy and cheesy. It resembles the consistency of a Danish and is soaked in sugar syrup. Also, it's topped off with pistachios.
