Honey Baked Chicken Drumsticks | Lonumedhu

Honey Baked Chicken Drumsticks

Spicy, tangy and with just a hint of sweetness, these baked chicken drumsticks are a guaranteed treat for the taste buds. It’s also a great recipe for those times when you have people over because you’ll be able to impress them with minimal effort.

Honey is the ingredient responsible for the beautiful colour, as well as the delicious charring and caramelization you see on these chicken drumsticks and therefore, the quality and sweetness of the honey you use is important for this one.

In our recipe, we’ve used Al Shifa Natural Honey, which we got from one of our partners MHA, and we are happy to confirm that it checked off all our boxes. As the name suggests, Al Shifa Natural Honey is 100 percent natural, and besides that it’s a blend of carefully chosen honey types from around the world making it all the more delicious.

Serves: 3-4

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 ½ tbsp. Al Shifa Natural Honey
  • 2 tbsp. lime juice
  • 2 tbsp. dried mixed herbs
  • 1 tsp. red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 garlic clove grated
  • 1 tsp. salt (or to taste)
  • 900 grams chicken drumsticks (skin on)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. In a small bowl, combine all the ingredients except the chicken.
  3. Place the chicken drumsticks in a large bowl. Make sure the drumsticks are dry, that way the skin doesn’t end up too soggy. You can use a paper towel to get rid of the excess moisture.
  4. Then add the stuff you combined in Step 2 and mix well so that all the chicken pieces are nicely coated. You can cover the bowl and let the chicken marinate in the fridge for 2 hours or you can just move ahead to the next step if you are pressed on time. Marinating obviously makes the chicken more flavourful and succulent, but we’ve tested this recipe without marinating the chicken and the results were still quite excellent.
  5. Arrange the chicken on a non-stick baking tray or a tray lined with aluminium foil.
  6. Place the tray on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Then turn the pieces over. There’s going to be some pan juices, so scoop that with a spoon and pour some over the chicken drumsticks.
  8. Bake for another 30 minutes or until the chicken skin looks golden brown and there’s not much liquid left in the tray. Oven temperatures may differ so remember to keep an eye on it, especially towards the end.
