Mozzarella Sticks

This is a super enjoyable cheesy fried snack that’s great for a movie night or a hangout with friends and family. It is usually served with a sauce on the side, typically marinara sauce.

For our recipe, we have used the Cap Ping Pong Cheese Flavoured Crackers, provided to us by one of our partners, Silver Quest. These crackers add a nice cheesy flavour to the coating of the sticks. They are also good to have with a dip or just on their own.

Yield: 8 mozzarella sticks

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups Cap Ping Pong Cheese Flavoured Crackers
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 8 mozzarella cheese sticks (around 7 cm long, 1-2 cm thick)
  • 2 cups oil

Instructions:

  1. Add 1 ½ cups Cap Ping Pong Cheese Flavoured Crackers to a blender and blend on high speed for 30 seconds until it becomes fine crumbs. Add to a bowl and set aside.
  2. Beat 2 eggs in a small bowl and set aside.
  3. In a third bowl, mix together ½ cup flour, ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp dried oregano, ¼ tsp chilli powder, and ¼ tsp salt. Set this aside as well.
  4. To coat the mozzarella sticks (we used a mozzarella block cut into sticks around 7 cm long and 1–2 cm thick), dip a mozzarella stick into the egg mixture and coat it well. Then place it in the flour mixture and roll it around until fully coated. Dip it back into the egg mixture once more, and finally coat it in the crushed cheese crackers mixture. Repeat the same process for the remaining mozzarella sticks.
  5. Arrange the sticks in a plate and freeze them for at least 30 minutes to an hour. This helps make sure they don’t open up when frying.
  6. After the sticks are frozen, heat up 2 cups of oil in a small pot for around 4-5 minutes. Add half of the mozzarella sticks and fry for 1-2 minutes until golden and crispy. Do not stir or flip too much or it’ll leak into the oil. Transfer to an oil draining basket to remove excess oil. You can serve these with some sauce on the side.
