Cosy Bites at Commons Café

Category: Eating Out

by Iyath Adam

We dropped by the recently opened Commons Café & Social House for a quick bite – and spoiler alert – we weren’t disappointed!

Located on Maaveyo Magu in Male’, the space itself sets exactly the right tone for a chill bite out with friends or even a date. The outdoor area is especially charming, with white sand laid out front – something you don’t really see nowadays – which gives the café a breezy, almost beach-house feel.

Inside, the warm wooden tones make the space feel cosy without being dark. But what really stood out to us was the glass block half-wall inside, that added a soft, diffused light and gave the space a distinct, memorable look.

We kicked things off with their meatball sub, which arrived freshly heated. The garlic and mustard sauce gave it a bold kick, bringing a nice heat that worked well with the juicy, flavourful meatballs. Be warned, this sandwich is messy to eat, but we think that’s part of what made it so delicious!

For something sweet, we tried their coconut slice and boy, was this one a standout or what! The slightly chewy bottom shell held together a lovely mix of toasted coconut, nuts, and chocolate, all in a balance that felt just right – rich, delectable, but not too heavy.

To wash it all down, we went for the pomegranate espresso tonic. It didn’t look like much, but it was fizzy and sweet, with a gentle zing to it. The pomegranate syrup lifted the tonic and espresso mixture nicely, making it a bright and surprisingly refreshing drink.

All in all, Commons Café delivered a solid little spread – comforting and thoughtfully put together – and we’re sure to come and try more of their offerings again.
