Tried the Sandwich Baa?

Category: Eating Out

Sandwich Baa is a tiny pleasant place; white walls, cosy wooden panels, and warm vintage style lights. There were even fresh flowers in glass containers; some kept on wooden ledges, some secured onto wooden blocks that were mounted on to a wall.

A board boldly stating ‘Magey sandwich, ma beynun gothakah,’ greeted us when we reached the counter. In front of it were two cheerful faces, and in front of them were the assortment of meats, vegetables, cheeses, pickles and whatnot. At the Sandwich Baa, you decide what goes into your sandwich.

We decided to go for a pepper beef sandwich with brown bread, tomatoes, cucumber, cheese and mustard sauce. Perhaps that wasn’t the most adventurous of choices given the options available. Nevertheless, it sounded really tasty and we've heard good things about it from friends.

During the little time it took for the staff to assemble our sandwich, one of us waited at the counter while the other secured a seat. It was around 9:30pm and the place was beginning to fill up.

When we settled down to finally eat it, we were pleased with the juicy salty peppery beef. It also had the right amount of mustard, as we had requested for just a little. But, it was the bread that got us most excited. It was warm, soft, not chewy, not hard, and just perfect.

Our pepper beef sandwich was gobbled down with satisfaction. And because we should have eaten some more and because we keep hearing about their new sauces and ‘Fakka Friday,’ we are very determined to head to the Sandwich Baa soon again.
