Strawberry Chocolate Trifle | Lonumedhu

Strawberry Chocolate Trifle

This no-bake dessert, made with layers of chocolate cake, strawberries, and chocolate pudding is so simple and quick to prepare. This is a good dessert to have after lunch or dinner, as it is light and soft.

For the chocolate cake in our recipe, we have used Bifa Keks Cocoa Sponge Cake with Milk Cream, provided to us by one of our partners, Day Food. This is a small chocolate sponge cake filled with a sweet milk cream. It is a great sweet treat to have on the go or as a snack after a meal.

Serving size: 2

Ingredients:

For the chocolate pudding

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp + 2 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tbsp corn flour
  • 1 cup full cream milk

For layering the trifle

  • 4 tbsp chopped strawberries
  • 2 Bifa Kek Cocoa Spong Cakes
  • 4 small strawberries (sliced into halves)

For topping

  • 2 Bifa Kek Cocoa Sponge Cakes (crumbled)
  • 2 tsp chopped strawberries

Instructions:

  1. To start off, add ¼ cup sugar, 2 tbsp + 2 tsp cocoa powder, and 1 ½ tbsp of corn flour to a small saucepan and stir to combine.
  2. Then, add in 1 cup full cream milk and whisk everything together. While continuously whisking, cook on medium high heat for around 5 minutes or until it comes to a gentle simmer. At this point, the mixture will start to thicken into a pudding-like consistency – a bit drippy but also hold its shape well. Once you reach this point, remove the chocolate pudding from heat and let it cool down.
  3. Next, in a bowl, crumble 2 Bifa Kek Cocoa Spong Cakes using a fork, until it resembles coarse cake crumbs. Set aside.
  4. Now, assemble the trifle. First, add 2 chopped strawberries to two small dessert glasses each (we used glasses that are 3-inches wide and around 3-inches deep).
  5. Then, place 2 small strawberries (sliced in half) horizontally, with the inside of the strawberries pressed against the sides of the glass.
  6. Now, add 2 tbsp of the crumbled Bifa Kek Cocoa Spong Cake to the glass. Using a small spoon, gently press the crumbs down and smoothen the top.
  7. Next, pour 3 tbsp of the chocolate pudding into each glass.
  8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 again, adding 2 more tbsp of the crumbled cake, followed by 3 tbsp of pudding to each glass. The trifle cups will now have a layer of strawberries, and two alternate layers of cake and pudding.
  9. Finally, sprinkle 2 crumbled Bifa Kek Cocoa Sponge Cakes and 2 tsp chopped strawberries evenly on top of each glass. These strawberry chocolate trifles can be served straight away or after chilling in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
