Shawarma Fries

If you love shawarma, then you have to try this recipe! It is perfectly seasoned chicken on a bed of cheese and fries, topped with fresh vegetables and sauce. This is so good to have for lunch or dinner, as it is also really filling.

Serving size: 2-3

Ingredients:

For the chicken

  • 200g chicken breast
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp oil

For the fries

  • 300g frozen French fries
  • 2 cups oil

Toppings

  • ¼ cup diced onion
  • ¼ cup diced capsicum
  • 1/3 cup diced tomato
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the white sauce:

  • ½ tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ½ tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  1. To begin, defrost the chicken breast and season it by coating it evenly with garlic powder, salt, chili powder, cumin, and black pepper.
  2. Then heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan. Place the chicken in the pan and cook it on medium heat for around 12 minutes or until the chicken is cooked all the way, with a crispy outside. Flip the chicken halfway through (at around the 6th minute) so that both the side will be cooked evenly.
  3. Next, heat 2 cups of oil in a large pot. Add in the fries and fry them for 7-8 minutes on medium heat or until golden brown in color. Remove and set aside.
  4. Slice the cooked chicken breast into thin strips, of around 1 ½ inches long, and ½ inch wide. You can always adjust the size to your liking.
  5. After that, line a baking tray with baking paper (we have used 8×5-inch tray). Then evenly layer in the French fries you made earlier in the tray. On top of the French fries, place the sliced chicken strips.
  6. After that, add the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the chicken layer evenly.
  7. Before baking, pre heat the oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees or until the cheese is melted all the way. Remove from the oven after it is done.
  8. Dice onion, capsicum, and tomato. Then chop up some parsley for garnish, of around 1 tbsp.
  9. Now you can top your shawarma fries with an even layer of diced onion, capsicum and tomato. After that, sprinkle the parsley on top.
  10. Make the white sauce by mixing all the ingredients together in a small bowl. Then drizzle the sauce on top of the shawarma fries and serve.
