Sausage Bread Rolls

Sausage Bread Rolls are an easy tea time treat. Ours are spicy with a gooey cheese layer.

In our recipe we’ve used Sadia Chicken Franks, which we got from one of our partners Standard & Origin (S&O). These sausages are great for boiling, grilling and pan frying. Plus, they don’t contain any artificial colours or flavours.

Makes: 5

Ingredients:

  • 5 Sadia Chicken Franks
  • 2 tsp. chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp. chilli sauce
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil (for frying the sausages)
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
  • 5 slices white bread (large)
  • 5 cheese slices
  • 1/3 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1 ½ cup vegetable oil (for frying the rolls)

Instructions:

  1. Make several shallow cuts on both sides of each sausage.
  2. Mix chili powder and chili sauce in a bowl and add the sausages. Coat the sausages well with the mix.
  3. Heat 1 tbsp. oil in a pan and fry the sausages for 3 minutes on medium low heat. Remove to a plate.
  4. To a bowl add the egg, salt and pepper. Mix to combine and set it aside.
  5. Take the bread slices and cut away the edges.
  6. Roll the bread slices using a rolling pin, flattening them out until they become thin.
  7. Place a bread slice on a plate and place a cheese slice on top of the bread.
  8. Place the sausage on top of the cheese slice, near one edge. Brush a little bit of the egg mixture on the other edge of the bread and then roll to get the sausage completely wrapped in it. Place it on a clean plate. Repeat until you run out of sausages and bread.
  9. Now we are going to coat the rolls with the egg mixture and breadcrumbs. Add the dried bread crumbs to a plate and spread it out. Place the egg mixture near it. Take a roll and dip it into the egg mixture, getting all sides covered in egg. Then place it in the dried bread crumbs, rolling it around to get it entirely coated. Once coated remove to a plate. Repeat until you run out of sausage rolls.
  10. Heat 1 ½ cup oil in a pan on high heat. Test the temperature of the oil by dropping a little bit of the roll in it. If it floats to the top and you see bubbles forming around the oil is hot enough. Deep fry the sausage rolls for 3 to 4 minutes while flipping them now and then to get them cooked evenly on both sides. Keep heat on medium heat throughout. When fried, remove the sausage rolls using a steel strainer.
