Rava Pirini (with Saji Condensed Milk) | Lonumedhu

Rava Pirini (with Saji Condensed Milk)

It’s a super simple dessert that is perfect for when you are craving something sweet without spending too much time in the kitchen. This refined version of our previous recipe uses semolina instead of rice, making it much faster to prepare while still giving you the creamy texture and familiar flavour of traditional pirini.

For our recipe, we have used Saji Condensed Milk provided to us by one of our partners, Day Food. This condensed milk has a rich, creamy texture and balanced sweetness that works beautifully in desserts like pirini, while also being great for tea, coffee, and other sweet treats.

Serving Size: 2-3

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup semolina (rava)
  • 2 cup water
  • 1 cup full cream milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 6-inch pandan leaf
  • 1 can Saji Condensed Milk
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • ½ tsp cinnamon powder
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder

Instructions:

  1. Heat a medium-sized pot over low to medium heat for about 40 seconds. Add ½ cup semolina (rava) and cook while stirring continuously or until you begin to smell its aroma. This took us about 6 minutes. There’s no need to brown it.
  2. Add 2 cups water, 1 cup full cream milk, ¼ cup sugar, and the 6-inch pandan leaf. Increase the heat to medium-high and continue stirring for 6 to 7 minutes or until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble. Remove the pandan leaf and discard it.
  3. Add 1 can Saji Condensed Milk and continue stirring over high heat until the bubbles become more rapid and the mixture thickens slightly. This took us around 4 and a half minutes.
  4. Switch off the heat, add 1 tsp rose water, and stir for about 15 to 20 seconds. Keep in mind that the pirini will start setting quite quickly once the heat is off.
  5. Pour the mixture into a serving container. Using a sieve, sprinkle over ½ tsp cinnamon powder and ½ tsp cardamom powder.
  6. Let the pirini set before serving. Ours was ready after about 30 minutes, but you can also chill it in the fridge if you prefer.
