Milk Barfi


Milk Barfi is an Indian sweet treat made with ghee, milk powder, milk and sugar. Ours is topped with almonds and pistachios.

In our recipe we’ve used Milgro Full Cream Milk Powder, which we got from one of our partners ADK General Trading. Apart from being really delicious on its own as well as in teas, coffees and with cereals, Milgro Full Cream Milk Powder also contains calcium, protein, vitamins, minerals and iron.

Makes: 6-8



  • ¼ cup ghee
  • 2 cups Milgro Full Cream Milk Powder
  • ½ cup milk (2 tbsp. Milgro Full Cream Milk Powder mixed in ½ cup water)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • ½ tsp. cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp. chopped pistachio
  • 2 tbsp. chopped almonds



  1. Heat a pan and then add ghee, Milgro Full Cream Milk Powder, milk and sugar.
  2. Cook on medium low heat while stirring continuously. Add the cardamom powder when then Milgro Full Cream Milk Powder dissolves.
  3. Keep cooking while continuously stirring for 10 minutes until the contents in the pot form a firm dough and separate from the sides of the pan.
  4. Line a rectangular tray with baking paper. We used an 8 by 5.5 inch tray (to line the tray, first rub around a teaspoon of butter on the bottom and sides. Then, place a baking paper sheet at the bottom of the tray, pressing it down onto the butter; leave an overhang for easy removal). Transfer the mixture to the tray and press gently with a spatula to even it out.
  5. Add the chopped pistachios and almonds on top and gently press again.
  6. Put the tray in the fridge for 2 hours so that the barfi can set.
  7. When set, remove the barfi from the tray and cut into rectangular pieces.
