Faaroshi Custard Pudding


This faaroshi custard pudding is proof that sometimes the simplest of desserts are the yummiest.

In our recipe we used Colussi Classic Toasts, which we got from one of our partners MHA. These are sturdy enough to hold the creamy custard soak while still being crisp, giving the pudding a lovely bite.


Serves: 4-5



For the pudding

  • 3 tbsp. custard powder
  • 2 ½ cups full cream milk (for the custard)
  • ½ tsp. vanilla essence
  • ½ cup sugar

For the rusk layer

  • 10 Colussi Classic Toasts
  • 4 tbsp. full cream milk (to pour on top of milk rusks)

For the topping

  • 2 tbsp. chopped almonds
  • 1 tbsp. raisins



  1. To a small bowl add 3 tbsp. custard powder and ½ cup full cream milk and mix till dissolved. Set aside.
  2. Add 2 cups full cream milk to a pot and heat on medium heat.
  3. When the milk is hot, add the custard mixture, vanilla essence and sugar and stir to combine.
  4. Keep stirring on medium high heat for 6 minutes or until it thickens to a medium consistency. Switch off the stove and set aside.
  5. Arrange 5 Colussi Classic Toasts at the bottom of a tray (we used a 22cm by 16.5cm tray, with a depth of 6.5cm) to make the first layer. You might have to break some in half to make them fit into the tray.
  6. Pour 2 tbsp. of milk on top of the Colussi Classic Toasts.
  7. Add half of the custard mixture on top of the Colussi Classic Toasts.
  8. Repeat 5, 6 & 7 to make the final two layers.
  9. Top with raisins and chopped almonds. Serve immediately or chilled.
