Cheesy Tuna Panini | Lonumedhu

Cheesy Tuna Panini

These are super cheesy tuna paninis you can quickly prepare at home. They taste so creamy and mildly spicy, great for an afternoon snack or breakfast.

For our recipe, we have used the Devondale Cheese Slices provided to us by one of our partners, STO (State Trading Organization). Devondale Cheese Slices are sourced from free grazing dairy cows in Australia. These are also high in calcium, a perfect addition to your sandwiches and burgers.

As for making the paninis, we have used the Russell Hobbs Panini Maker provided to us also by STO. This panini maker comes with a large grill plate with 1.5 litres capacity. It grills the food quicky and is easy to clean up as well.

Serving size: 8 panini

Ingredients:

  • 1 small thinly sliced onion
  • 1 finely chopped green chilli
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 can tuna (drained)
  • ¼ cup finely diced tomato
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp chilli sauce
  • 8 small burger buns (around 3 ½ inches wide)
  • 8 Devondale Cheese Slices

Instructions:

  1. To a large bowl, add 1 small thinly sliced onion, 1 finely chopped green chilli, 1 tsp of lemon juice, ½ tsp of salt and ¼ tsp black pepper. Start squeezing and squashing the mixture using your fingers, till the onions are soft and watery-like. This will take around 2 minutes.
  2. Next add 1 can of tuna into the mix after draining any excess oil/water and mix well. Then add ¼ cup diced tomatoes and mix it in evenly.
  3. Lastly, using a spoon, mix in 2 tbsp mayonnaise and 1 tbsp chilli sauce. Portion the filling into equal 8 parts.
  4. Slice 8 burger buns in half horizontally and spread a portion of the filling on the bottom half of every bun. Make sure to leave around ½ cm from the edge so the filling will not leak when grilled.
  5. Then place a Devondale Cheese Slice on top (you can quarter the cheese slice and then place to make sure it fits inside). Finally, place the tops of the buns.
  6. Grill the paninis in the Russell Hobbs Panini Maker for 1 minute and 20-30 seconds until it’s brown on top.
