Tres Leches Cake by Crumbs

Category: Love This Dish

We try the tres leches cake by Crumbs and we’re loving it!

For those who don’t know, tres leches means “three milks” in Spanish. The light sponge cake is called so because it’s soaked in three types of milks after baking: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. A whipped cream topping, usually with some sort of fruit on top is there as well.

Crumbs offers tres leches cakes with a range of fruit toppings like passionfruit, strawberry, kiwi, and pomegranate. We opted to go with passionfruit as it’s our favourite.

The ordering process was easy. Crumbs offers medium trays for instant purchase, but they do make custom sized cakes for order as well. We went with the readily available medium trays. Although we did have to go pick up the cake, we have to say the process was still quite easy and convenient.

Now, for tasting! The passionfruit topping was abundant and provided a burst of colour against the white whipped cream topping. When you cut into the cake, you can tell how airy the cake is from the texture and the air bubbles. Despite being soaked in the three types of milk, the cake was not soggy at all and retained its shape well.

The sweet, milky taste of the cake was quite balanced. It went very well with the whipped cream and passionfruit topping, which gave that much-needed acidity and cut through the richness of the cake.

Overall, we’re certainly confident enough to say that this is a cake you could keep eating and eating until suddenly, the tray is empty (which is exactly what happened to us)!
