Pastries at Zoup for the Soul

Zoup for the Soul is a small takeaway shop in Male’ City, offering home-made pastries – sweet and savoury – as well as hedhikaa for teatime. Savoury goodies available include butter chicken puff, eggplant & mushroom tart, firecracker sausage and cheese & tomato egg sandwich. Sweets include delectable treats like chocolate coffee loaf, raspberry lemon cake, chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, lemon cookies and more. 

Different pastries are available depending on the day, although you can always reserve what you want ahead, just by sending them a DM on Instagram. 

After seeing their pictures, we knew that we definitely had to try their eggplant and mushroom tart. It’s a puff pastry square, topped with a mixture of caramelised mushrooms and eggplant, and baked to perfection. The savoury filling goes great with the buttery, rich dough and is great to just gobble up in one go! 

We also tried out their lemon loaf; a vibrant yellow cake topped with a sugary glaze and the thinnest lemon slice on top. The texture of the loaf was soft and melt-in-your-mouth, and it was absolutely bursting with lemon flavour. The sweet sugar glaze perfectly complemented the tartness, and the lemon slice garnish was the sour pièce de résistance which completed the bite. If you’re a fan of citrus desserts, then you should definitely try this one!

We also had the pleasure of trying out Zoup for the Soul’s delicious lemon cookies. With a slightly crackly top, soft, chewy and lemon-y, it’s the perfect thing for when you’re craving something sweet but not too rich or cloying.
