For the unpractised, making roshi is a cryptic process that takes a lot of time. First you have to make the dough to the right consistency. Some of us actually spend a whole lot of time figuring out exactly how much of hot water we should add so that it doesn’t end up like a gooey mess. Then there’s the rolling part where we have to make the roshi paper thin while putting in all the effort we can muster to stop them from appearing like cooked continents; and finally there’s the flipping and pressing to cook them one at a time.
We at Lonumedhu have stumbled upon a delicious and affordable solution for our roshi troubles: Mr.Roshi.
For a start, they deliver fast. We’ve ordered on numerous occasions and we received the roshi within thirty minutes. We usually order the plain roshi that’s made with vegetable oil. The roshi comes in packets of ten; MVR 15.90 per packet, and to have them delivered you have to order at least two packets.
At first sight the roshi might appear to be just a tad bit smaller than the regular homemade ones. But after eating them, we figured one roshi from Mr. Roshi filled us up as much as one of their homecooked counterparts. The roshi needs to be lightly heated before eating and that’s it. So it really beats the usual roshi alternative chapatti that takes ages to cook. The ones you don’t use can be kept in the fridge for two days. They really do taste great and the cost of a regular roshi comes to just MVR 1.59.
Mr. Roshi has some options for health conscious individuals as well. Their Healthy Green roshi is made with olive oil instead of vegetable oil and a pack of ten costs MVR 21.20 while their Healthy Brown is made with whole wheat flour and olive oil and costs MVR 23.32 per packet of ten. We’ve tested them all and we really do love the taste of the brown option.
Nothing can beat freshly made roshi from home, but for busy people Mr. Roshi is quite a wonderful, cheap and convenient solution.
