Maldivian Patissier – Whisking Wonders

If you’re a fan of pastries – and delicious, different combinations at that – then you should definitely not miss out on the goodies from Maldivian Patissier

Maldivian Patissier, by renowned pastry chef Aminath Hameed, has recently opened their dine-in outlet. Open on select days of the week, the patisserie offers a wide array of baked goods from bread, croissants, cookies, cakes and even house made chocolate and gluten-free options.

From their various options, here are some of the best ones we’ve tried.

The Korean cheese garlic bun was like a flavour bomb of tangy garlic and cheese flavours in your mouth. Soft and pillowy, the bun had a lovely golden-brown crust, and was coated in a rich, garlic butter sauce. Every bite of the bun felt indulgent and satisfying – and it’s definitely a must-try for garlic bread enthusiasts.

No food truly showed the skill of savoury pastries the Maldivian Patissier’s black truffle mushroom pastry! The flaky, buttery puff pastry layers were topped with a mushroom and cheese mixture, which not only looked great but had a great, savoury taste. The balance between the delicate pastry and the umami filling was delectable, and went great with our sweet treats.

Maldivian Patissier’s version of the kunafa chocolate croissant is a dark chocolate covered croissant with a filling of pastry cream, pistachio butter and crispy kunafa bits. The chocolate layer had small slivers of nuts in it – which gave the croissant an extra crunch – while filling inside was rich and sweet. Despite all the sweet elements, the croissant didn’t taste too cloying or sugary, but was perfectly balanced with the flakiness of the pastry.

But perhaps our favourite was the Earl Grey petit gateau. Simple and elegant looking on the outside, the petit gateau (which translates to ‘little cake’ in French) was a symphony of flavours. The delicate layers of the cake were moist, light, and creamy with a subtle hint of bergamot and earthiness from the Earl Grey tea. The zingy flavour of the bergamot really elevated the dessert and gave it an interesting twist. The edible flower and gold foil on top really added to the decadence of the dessert too!

There’s a lot more to choose from at Maldivian Patissier, and we’re certain that every treat will be nothing short of utter deliciousness!
