Heads up, people! A new food place is in town, and we’re here for it. Introduced just last month, Meer Café, Bakery & Shoppe has taken the Instagram food scene by storm with their witty food-related posts and decadent-looking dishes.
The delectable smoothie bowls and newly-introduced “zen” salad bowls looked great – but we decided to go for lunch, with their chicken fajita bowl.
As the name suggests, the chicken fajita bowl is essentially a deconstructed version of the Mexican chicken fajita; grilled chicken, stir-fried spice-laden bell peppers, a tangy mango & cilantro salsa and “secret” sriracha aioli, and of course, the rice.
Surprisingly, the thing that stood out the most for us from the dish was the rice. It was just perfectly cooked; fluffy, not too mushy or overly hard, with each grain separate.
The mango salsa was zingy, as advertised. The sweetness of the mango complimented the sharp taste of the cilantro as well as the tomato and bell pepper. The sriracha aioli provided a creaminess to the dish, although it could have been a bit spicier, in our opinion. Overall, all the components of the dish worked really well together; no single thing overpowered the other and everything together made the perfect, tasty mouthful.
We’d also heard really good things about their grilled chicken aglio olio, so we tried it as well and boy, was it worth it! Al-dente spaghetti coated in garlic-infused olive oil with sautéed garlic slices and chilis. A sprinkling of Parmigiano Reggiano and herbs provided a nice touch of saltiness and freshness.
The garlic taste of the aglio olio was just right, not overpowering, or oily. Basically, when you think of aglio olio, this is the taste you want to experience. Along with the generous portion of grilled chicken as a protein source, this dish is an all-round great lunch option.
For MVR 99 each, the dishes were definitely worth it – both portion and money-wise. We’ll definitely be ordering more from Meer in the future!
