Dumplings & Sushi from Jiaozi

If you’re looking for a new comfort-food fix in Male’, Jiaozi is one page worth checking out.

Named after a type of Chinese dumpling called “jiaozi”, the relatively new food page specialises in dumplings, sushi, and sushi bake. The menu brings together some seriously satisfying Asian flavours, including chicken katsu, spicy crab, and tempura prawn sushi rolls. The sushi bake also comes in small, medium, and large sizes.

Another standout feature is that Jiaozi also caters to larger gatherings with megapacks of 30 pieces of dumplings, making it a convenient choice for parties, family gatherings, or even just casual hangouts with friends.

We decided to try out their chicken dumplings (normal portion size of 10 pieces) alongside the spicy crab roll (8 pieces). The delivery time is between 5:00-7:00pm and it was promptly delivered within that window.

The chicken dumplings were warm and juicy, but what really elevated the dish was the spicy dipping sauce served on the side. The sauce had a bold chilli kick, balanced with the savoury taste of fried onions, giving the dumplings an extra layer of flavour that worked perfectly together.

The spicy crab roll was equally enjoyable. Each piece was wonderfully bite-sized, with a crab filling inside and topped with kewpie mayo and fried onions on top – easy to enjoy while still getting a balanced mix of flavours in every mouthful. Served with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi, the dish came with all the classic accompaniments needed for a proper sushi experience.

Overall, the flavours of both dishes felt rich, comforting, and well-balanced, with just the right amount of savoury umami-ness to keep every bite interesting.
