Bolaksa for the Brave

We think Blood Orange has recently become a haunt for noodle lovers. The past few times we’ve been there we saw people eating noodles to the right and the left. And this is quite understandable given the fact that they make a number of good noodle dishes including their pad thai, ramen and Pacho.

We’ve recently been bowling over their Bolaksa, their super spicy laksa. Blood Orange is known for making spicy food, but this one is really not for the faint of heart. If we were to rate the spiciness, we’d give it a ten out of ten. So yes, it is that spicy and you must proceed with caution.

In addition to packing a lot of heat, the soup is actually umami rich and flavourful, with hints of lemongrass that make it feel bright. In the soup are prawns, shredded chicken, rice noodles, bok choy, mushrooms, bean sprouts and a soft boiled egg. And all of this comes together for a fantastic dish we’d recommend to all those of you who like their food with a kick.

There’s a house-made chilli paste for those who want to take things a bit further too, but we’ve never needed it.
